It Happens

It happens. People come and people go. Jobs change, relationships shift, …sickness, …aging, …death… it’s all a part of this thing we call life. The bad news is that change occurs regardless if we are ready and willing to handle it or not. I look in the mirror or get on the scales or try to make it through an evening movie without falling asleep, and I think, “What is happening here?” Things change. I cannot stop or prevent change from occurring in my life.

This leaves me with one, and only one, choice. I can choose how I respond to the change. I can control my outlook, my attitude and my response. When I choose to view change negatively and make it all about me, I become self-centered and self-absorbed. When I look at change as an opportunity to grow and to help others along their journey, it changes my perspective on life and hope.

The temptation and tendency is for us to focus our attention on how life is affecting us. This leads to a spiral of negativity and hopelessness. Instead, let’s ask “How can we use this season of our life to walk with someone in need, or build a stronger relationship with someone we love, or practice the act of giving unconditionally?”.

I will make you a promise. When you take the focus off of your own situation and choose to use change as a vehicle to give to those around you, you definitely will make a difference!
